Message from the Chairman

Since the establishment of the Emirates Science Club by Cultural and Scientific Association on January 15, 1990 it was necessary to be able to work with children and young people in order to discover their talents, develop their creative and innovative abilities, help them in their endeavors, show their innovative and creative talents and train them on the methods of research, design and commercial products. The Club plays a positive role in utilizing the leisure time for children and young people and to highlight the hidden abilities and invest them in the areas of innovation, productivity and the development of positive energy and keep them away from the negative effects that result from boredom due to lack of taking advantage of leisure time.
The history witnessed the rapid scientific developments at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century.  At the beginning of the Twentieth Century, the Italian Scientist Marconi was able to send a voice signal across the Atlantic Ocean, and this was the first step in the communications revolution

At the end of the last century, communications and technology revolution exploded and entered every home around the world and made the world a small village.  Club aims to educate its members of the concept of scientific revolutions and their impact in determining the development of communities, and to identify the elements that led to this human scientific progress, and take this as the starting point towards searching for creative talents.

In light of the tremendous achievements in the field of communications and information technology; the UAE was keen to transfer technology to the UAE community and to provide information services to everyone.  Thus, the UAE has become a pioneer among Arab countries in adapting the technology and providing telecommunications and Internet services with high efficiency comparable to the efficiency of the developed countries in this area.

When the third millennium began; the world entered into the era of knowledge, in this era we witnessed the birth of knowledge-based economy and knowledge society.  This is the era in which distances and geographical barriers were removed between the peoples of the world and between distant countries and between global trades.

In this era of technological evolutions, ESC brings scientific concepts close together and unifies the intellectual and scientific methods and concepts. This era relied on the knowledge base to build a knowledge-based economy, which means that knowledge is the basis of the progress of civilization in the present and in the future.

The question that arises… Are there conditions to keep pace with the knowledge time and build knowledge economy?  The answer lies in building and preparation of the knowledge base.  From this standpoint the UAE set balanced strategy to build the knowledge base and long-term plan to achieve the vision envisaged by the leaders of the United Arab Emirates.

UAE began construction of infrastructure including education sector, transport networks, communications & IT networks, financial sector and business sector to be ready for any new project requires infrastructure and to enable all sectors to implement superstructure projects in social, economic, educational, technical sectors.  Therein lies the role of Emirates Science Club to make young people aware of the importance of the scientific elements that form the basis of infrastructure on which scientific, economic and commercial projects are built and which make the UAE in the ranks of developed countries.

Based on the effective contribution of young creators we were able to achieve high-tech achievements in a short period of time which led the UAE to become an example in all scientific forums and conferences.  Some of these achievements that put the UAE on the map of developed countries we mentioned Dubai Internet City, which is and was the first technical project aimed at providing technical services and the Internet in addition to the manufacturing, design and development of specialized programs.

Then UAE achieved other projects such as the E-government, E-business and Knowledge Village. These projects cover a wide range of software and other e-learning sectors.

UAE was not content itself with such achievements, but has established a giant projects to complement the knowledge-based economy and upgrading the UAE to be one of the industrialized countries in the field of technology and exports its products to all over the world.

The first example of the technical achievements is Dubai Silicon Oasis project, which aims to transfer the UAE community from a consumer society to industrial society and from traditional economic society to economic knowledge-based society.

Dubai Silicon Oasis is industrial and technological complex which manufactures all stages of the electronics and semiconductor industry including the stages of scientific research and development, electronic design, manufacturing, punching process, testing, evaluation and marketing and export.

Dubai Silicon Oasis project is a unique project in the region aims to achieve the vision of the wise leadership of the UAE to become industrialized country based on economic knowledge base.

In order to achieve this vision, the Oasis established Dubai Circuit Design Centre (DCDC) which provides integrated circuits for the factories of integrated devices and international companies working in the field of electronic design in of integrated circuits.

DCDC designed the first integrated circuit based on 65nm processor, which was produced Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company. The said circuit is designed for IT Data Security and it contains 22 million Transistors.

The second example is a project is Masdar in Abu the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, which aims to find solutions in the fields of energy and sustainable development, climate change and the development of expert manpower.  The most important achievements of  Masdar is the project of solar energy to generate 10 megawatts of electricity, which is considered as the largest solar energy network in the Middle East in the field of renewable energy.

If we look at the reality of scientific progress, we will find out that science has no boundaries. As a matter of fact, science does not stop at a certain point to give a chance to some country to become one of the developed countries. Science is never-ending journey which witnessing steady progress, and this makes it imperative for the countries to develop the technical capabilities and basic services and to encourages scientists to improve sciences.

At the beginning of this century, scientists were able to produce tiny micro-electronic devices instilled into human skin so that any person is able to take complete information about someone else upon handshakes without exchanging business cards.

Nowadays, scientists expect rapid developments in information and communication technology. One of the anticipated inventions which will see the light soon is the contact lens which will provide for any person all possible information about someone else in case that person forgot information about the other that person especially if the time interval between the two meetings was big.

This challenge to keep up with the times makes competition reaches its highest point. UAE is aware of this fact and it is ready for competition and to enter into the information age armed with technical development and clear future outlook under the wise leadership of the UAE leaders.

Emirates Science Club is non-profit organization aims at creation of innovative products by its innovative members. Therefore, it was necessary to establish different divisions to serve the community and make the UAE one of the leading countries in exporting innovative ideas and inventions.

The Club supervises ten activities, and it includes large number of UAE nationals, and the management of the Club is subject to the supervision of a group of experienced specialists of UAE Nationals.
